June 6-10

Thought of the Week:   Report Card evaluation should never come as a surprise to any family. How are you working with your staff to ensure that any significant drop in grades are communicated in advance to families?  This is a key part of the positive relationships that we aspire to have with every family. Please remind staff that families must be communicated with, especially as teachers will not be in schools after report cards go home.  I would also ask that you send the staff assignments list home with report cards.  Finally, I am trying to launch a promotion for summer reading so hopefully will have something to send home along those lines!

Health and Safety Reminders:

Privacy and Information Management (PIM):  This month is especially busy with field trips. With this comes field trip permission notes that contain private information such as health and medical information. How are you ensuring that this information is being kept private? What safeguards do you have in place to ensure that OHIP numbers (yes we are permitted to collect these for field trips) are kept strictly confidential?  Do you collect the  permission notes after the field trip and shred them?  Are you ensuring that educators are keeping health information confidential?

Field Trip Permission Notes:  We will discuss these on the PD Day, however it has been brought to my attention that each school is doing something different.  We need to standardize these notes, including the template as well as the notion that they must come from the office – teachers should not be making their own permission notes. Do you have the Freedom of Information statement on your permission forms as you are collecting private information?

More to come on the PIM topic (I attended a session last week!!).

TPAs -I have read a number of excellent TPAs and am really pleased with the progress that we are making in coming to a standardization around expectations for our comments in these documents.  There are a number of outstanding TPAs that I have yet to see. Please ensure that I am seeing them prior to them being given to teachers.  This is the final week for TPAs- they are to be completed by Friday. Please send me all outstanding TPAs even if you have already shared them with teachers.

Staff Handbooks – Suzanne is requiring a copy of your staff handbooks for the PD Day Occasional Teacher training on the PD Day. Please be sure to post your most recent edition into our google folder.  https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9gScHSOyXmEflAyVDc4Z3FpYndVS21sUWQ1ZzJzdGh2UGRJaFpuSWIzcUN1NVVtazhZNzA&usp=sharing

Carried Over from Last Week

Early Years Curriculum and Communication of Learning – June 15 1:00-3:30 session via Adobe and Teleconference  – As mentioned at the TMT, this session is for K-2 educators and will involve us in briefly unpacking the revised curriculum, linking the Communication of Learning to Pedagogical Documentation, and our next steps.  The grade 1 and 2 educators are asked to attend as it is vital that they see, hear and understand the messages that are being conveyed.  More information to come!  Code is 174 Pedagogical Leadership.

NTIP – A reminder to ensure that you have met with your NTIP teachers to update their Individual Strategy Form and the PD Form. The completion of these templates is a requirement for the successful completion of NTIP (to receive the NTIP designation). Please ensure that you are paying special attention to these processes as they are critical for these teachers.   These must be sent to Shelley by June 10. A reminder that all TPAs, including NTIP also need to be completed and signed off by June 10.  As you know, each NTIP teacher requires two Performance Appraisals. The feedback in these appraisals is critical to their growth; as teachers move from school to school, it is imperative that we engage fully in the NTIP processes to support growth and development of new teachers.
