3 Weeks until Christmas Break!
Thought of the Week: Self-Assessment of Instructional Leadership As leaders, we are constantly pulled in many directions. Days pass and we wonder “what did I get accomplished?” We know that when this happens repeatedly, it begins to form the climate of our school…which then, over time, forms the culture. We know that we are trying to create a culture of learning and thinking (rather than always compliance and doing) in our district. One tool that we can return to in order to engage in some self-assessment is our Learner-Centered Leadership Success Criteria – which is criteria that helps us, as leaders, to know if we are supporting (or how to support) the shift to our Learner Centered Environment and Pedagogy. Pull this document out and engage in a quick review of the Leadership Dimensions. Where are you spending the most time? Where do you need to strategically plan to focus to create the well-balanced instructional leadership approach? How can this quick self assessment inform the work and your goals from your POP? What are you learning about leading?
Health and Safety Act Reminders:
We need to remember that the Oh & S act requires us to mutually agree upon when the inspections are going to take place (see below) – we do this by establishing a schedule for our inspections beforehand with the Worker Rep.
Section 9 (28) reminds us that our workplace inspections shall be undertaken in accordance with a schedule established by the committee.
Anti-Bully Action Plans – Thanks to Shelley for sending out the other possible template for these plans. Many of you have asked about the requirement to have a committee. My suggestion is that you have your School Council be your committee; by adding this to the agenda and sharing with them how you continue to move your school culture to one of “kindness” through a strength based approach, you can meet the requirement. You should begin by sharing this plan with them. It is a great proactive step.
Inviting Trustees to Celebrate – Please remember that we encourage you to invite your local trustee to school events so that they can see, first hand, the amazing work that is happening in your schools. This would include things such as your assemblies, special events such as holiday concerts, etc. A quick email to them is the best way to contact them.

The deadline for applying is February 1, 2016. The application must be done for a visit of one author to three schools – between April 1 and March 31, 2016.
